To the editor:
I’d like to share this personal lesson with all voters. Every single vote counts! Just look at the current situation for Marcellus Town Councilor. Had just one more person voted for Don Sherman or for me, we wouldn’t be in the position we are — tied with 645 votes each.
For all of us (and yes, I’m including myself, for I am guilty of having done this) who have said: “It doesn’t matter if I go vote, it’s going to pass any way or it won’t change the out come”— we need to know it does matter!
I will never again fail to vote when given an opportunity to do so. For even if the difference is not down to one vote, our vote still matters. It shows what percentage of voters is either for or against an issue or an individual. That can be a powerful message to the “powers that be”.
So let’s all be better citizens and vote whenever given the opportunity. For it’s not only a right and a privilege, but also our duty. It’s what we must do to have a voice in our government — in our future.
Mary Jo Paul, Marcellus
