West Genny baseball runs past Liverpool

Randall's dash secures 4-3 win over defending AA champs

Enough bad weather popped up in the spring so that the West Genesee baseball team had to play five times in the last week of the regular season, two of them made up from previous postponements. Of those games, none had more importance than Wednesday’s clash with defending Class AA champion Liverpool, which was supposed to happen April 23.

For a quartet of local girls lacrosse teams, just reaching the Section III playoffs was enough of a chore, and not all of them would get there. Godzak shakes off poor start, earns 17 strikeouts

For the briefest moment Tuesday afternoon, the Marcellus baseball team had to feel like it was 2011 all over again. Just like in last year’s Section III Class B playoffs, the Mustangs were leading rival Westhill and appeared to solve the Warriors’ left-handed ace, Alex Godzak, in the process. Not long after that, though, reality returned, in the form of Godzak dominating on the mound and the Mustangs seeing its lead slip away in a tough 5-3 defeat.

This rough patch culminated Thursday afternoon, when the Warriors fell 1-0 to Homer, exactly one week after Westhill beat those same Trojans 2-0 at home in what was, at the time, a clash of two unbeaten sides.
